My grandmother soon remarried a man twelve years her junior. Returning home after serving in WW II, my step-grandfather, a sailor in the US Navy, worked as a photographer and retoucher for a portrait studio in Hollywood. Like my zaydeh, he influenced my photography. Both of my grandfathers gave me much needed camera equipment, some of which I still use. When he began using Photoshop he would discuss digital techniques and tools with me. Also a native Angeleno, my step-grandfather told amazing stories about his hometown. His most oft-repeated statement was, “Don’t let anyone tell you that Los Angeles doesn’t have culture.”
