My great grandfather on my mother’s side was in the textile industry – a very lucrative and prestigious business. His family lived in Lodz, the second largest city in Poland at the time. About 80% of Jews living there worked in textiles – the city’s main industry. My great grandfather’s family had around 30 factories producing different types of textiles throughout central Poland. All the family businesses and assets were either stolen or destroyed during WW II. Here is a photo taken sometime after the war of my great grandmother, who survived Auschwitz.
